The reading of omens is an art and practice dating back to antiquity. Omens reveal many things and are all around us, if we permit ourselves to be aware of them. They can be quite beneficial, especially in warning us of dangerous situations ahead of time. The trick is knowing how to correctly interpret the omen.
The kitchen is one place in which many omens manifest. For instance, a rainstorm is portended by the repeated boiling over of a coffeepot and also by the accidental spilling of water on a tablecloth. Other omens include the following:
* Money will soon come your way if any of the following things should occur: bubbles appear in a cup of coffee, you accidentally knock over a sugar bowl, rice forms a ring around the edge of a pot, or tea leaves float to the top of the cup.
* Trouble is indicted by the accidental omission of spices from a recipe or by the spilling of salt. Be prepared for an argument with someone if you should happen to spill pepper on the kitchen table or floor. (According to occult tradition, these bad omens can be remedied by simply adding the spices, and by tossing a pinch of salt or pepper over your left shoulder, respectively.) It is also said that if two persons stir the same boiling pot or sit together on a table, they will soon find themselves involved in a quarrel.
* If your apron comes untied by itself and falls off while you are working in the kitchen, this is generally seen as a sign that someone is thinking about you. Some say that it means your sweetheart is having romantic thoughts about you at that moment.
* It is believed by many to be an omen of good news when baked apples burst while in the oven, or when the salt and sugar are accidentally mixed up.
* If a fork accidentally falls onto the floor, a woman will soon knock on your door; a spoon indicates the arrival of a gentleman. (In some parts of the world, the fork means a man, and the spoon a woman.) Unexpected or unwelcome visitors are also presaged by the dropping of a knife that sticks in the ground and by cracks that form on the shells of eggs boiling in a pot of water.
* If you are engaged or wish to get married, according to an old belief once common in England, you should take care to never sit on a kitchen table, for this will break the engagement and also prevent you from ever being wed.
* There are also numerous kitchen omens concerning bread. It is considered unlucky in certain countries to wash a bread-knife on a Sunday, cut both ends of a loaf of bread, leave a knife stuck in the loaf, or take the last slice of bread. Accidentally dropping a slice of bread with the buttered side down is also said to be a bad omen; however, it is a good sign if the dropped bread lands with the buttered side up. If you and another person reach for the same slice of bread at the same time, an unexpected visitor will soon appear.
HOW TO HOLD A GODDESS CONFERENCE IN SEVEN EASY STEPS
Newsletter Table of Contents Got a problem that's been driving you nuts? Feel like you can't find a solution? Great! Take it to the council of goddesses and learn how they'd handle it.
1. Set up an appointment Decide ahead of time when you'll hold your goddess conference. Get together what you'll need: a pen and paper, a candle, some relaxing music. Choose a time when you know you won't be disturbed and pencil it in on your calendar. My favorite times are at night about an hour before I'll go to sleep and first thing in the morning after I've had a shower and gotten dressed.
2. Invite your fave Goddesses Choose five of your favorite goddesses to invite. Each goddess who comes will bring a different set of attributes so think about what qualities could be helpful. You could ask Kuan Yin to bring her compassion and spiritual understanding to the situation. Freya to help you see the bigger picture, Aphrodite to bring her love and wisdom, Scathach to bring her determination and focus and Mary to bring her psychic skills to help you divine the future Send a mental message to each goddess telling her what time the meeting will be held.
3. Present your problem to the board At the allotted time put the music on and light the candle. Close your eyes and mentally call each goddess to you. Imagine each goddess arriving and taking her place in a circle around you. In your imagination tell the goddesses what's been bugging you. Pour your heart out to them.
4. Get guidance from the goddesses Go around the circle and ask each goddess for her take on the situation and how she would handle it. Ask what skills and resources you need to develop to handle the problem.
5. Brainstorm ideas and input Write down what you imagine each goddess suggests. Ask the goddesses how you could reach the best possible outcome and write down as many ideas as you imagine them saying. Write continuously without editing for seven minutes. Don't worry if it feels like you are making it up. Just keep writing. You could write in question and answer format too asking the goddesses questions and then writing their imagined answers.
6. Come up with an action plan Ask the goddesses to help you create an action plan based on the best possible outcome. Don't worry about how you are going to do what they suggest. Just write as many steps as necessary.
7. Write three steps you will take this week Commit to three small steps you can tackle this week. Ask the goddesses to help you. See your future self in your imagination as already having achieved a great solution. Get energy from your future self to help you during the week, too. Don't forget to thank the goddesses and blow out the candle. Each night continue to see the goddesses helping you.
A Litlle something from my working Book Of Shadows, Nyanah
This page is dedicated to the most basic of 'magick'. Making a wish! Yes, that is magick in the most pure sense.
This requires no tools, or sacred spaces, only the most powerful tool that each and everyone has, their mind. Along with the faith , and conviction (intent) to make it come true.
Think back to when you were a child, and it was time to blow out the candles. We thought long and hard for what we wanted, gathered all the will power we could muster, and sent our wish out on baded breathe to extinguish those candles! Sure, we never got that pony, but the intent was still being sent out for the universe to catch! We just didn't REALLY need that pony!
The same thing happens today, just with more intent and need than when we were children. Everytime we do our rituals we set out 'wishes'. Sure we may call them spells, prayers. or invocations, but in essence ,we are making a simple wish just with more elaborate settings.
We do it in our mundane lives as well. How many times have we not heard from someone, and start to worry, and stop, with all the intent we can find, wish that they would call, or show up, and they do?
We send out healing energies, at someones request, or add them to our prayer chain, we are making a wish to the God/dess that she send our assistance, and Hers, to the person in need. When She grants our wish, our intent is fulfilled.
Each and evey person in this world of ours is a practioner of 'Wishcraft', they just don't know it, wouldn't they be surprised!
Star light, star bright I wish I may, I wish I might Have the wish I wish tonight!
Simple Solution What are the keys to unveiling your true wisdom? Are they things that are mysterious and beyond ordinary understanding? No. The seven secrets keys for unlocking the remarkable power of belief are not really secrets at all. There is nothing contained in them that you didn't already know.
Learn the seven keys of belief and cast a fresh light on what holds you back from the life you desire:
The First Key: You are Living Your Dream Take full responsibility for your life-dream, and a world of enormous possibility will open right before your eyes.
The Second Key: Open the Gates of Lucid Living When you notice that everyday consciousness is awake-dreaming modified by the filter of all your agreements, the extraordinary magic of what you choose to believe will be fully revealed.
The Third Key: Balance the Four Elements of Belief The totality of who you are created the beliefs you are living, not just what you think is true. Balance those elements and the dream of your life will become your carefully crafted masterpiece. Air: intellect and perception. Water: emotions in the moment and emotions in memory. Fire: intention and intent. Earth: the dream and the dreamer--all the potential, all the possibility of belief is within reach.
The Fourth Key: Design a New Framework of Agreements Everything you do is based on all the agreements you have made with yourself. To support the beliefs you would like to have, design a new framework of agreements.
The Fifth Key: Be the Prize You've Been Seeking Instead of looking for the prize, be the prize. Being the prize makes you compelling, drawing tremendous opportunity, and spawns beliefs that will take you exactly where you want to go.
The Sixth Key: Build an Engine Fueled with Love Fueling your engine with love simply means you choose compassion, discovery, and desire, counseled by the way you feel, as a way to embrace and welcome change.
The Seventh Key: The Prime Directive is Not-Fear The prime directive of not-fear is a lighthouse, a beacon in the fog that can always guide you home. Use the prime directive of not-fear to clarify and cleanse every action, every decision you make. Before you make any decision, speak, or take action, ask yourself this one simple yet powerful question: Is this fear or is it not-fear?
